Athletic Attire Galore!
Recently I've decided to get back in shape... if only it were that easy. I’m assuming this goal of mine is probably something that at some point in your life, you shared in my idealistic ways. It is important for me to acknowledge the various degrees of fitness and motivation that one can engage in. For some people, they enjoy reading the occasional magazine or news article explaining what’s best for the body (researching celebrity weight-loss plans fall under this category). Then, there are those individuals who on an impulse join the most expensive gym around (they believe this will push them towards being a more frequent visitor with clean towels and colorful machines). In addition to these 2 categories you have many others who demonstrate their desires to get fit in a multitude of ways.

And then you have me. I am the type who goes shopping for athletic pants, cute tops and sneakers before I’ve even stepped for on the gym floor. I am that person who you dread seeing at the gym because I am, well, all too matchy matchy. I understand my foolish behavior but I can’t seem to quit the habit. That being said I took a trip to TJMaxx yesterday in hopes of curing my addiction. Yes, in case you are wondering, I actually thought doing a little damage would then inspire me to stop by the gym on my way home.

It happened right in the heart of Boston, at the Downtown Crossing TJMaxx. I rode the escalator down (for those of you who aren’t familiar, above the TJMaxx is a Marshalls – super convenient, my type of shopping exactly) and made a V-line for activewear. I found Nike jackets, Speedo sports bras and Adidas workout pants! The prices were great! My pile continued to grow as I made my way thru each aisle, stocking up for what I anticipate to be a very active spring considering my new wardrobe. Once finished, I picked up a yoga mat, medicine ball, and small weights and headed for the door.

Who knew that TJMaxx carried workout equipment in addition to its’ mass amounts of clothes! I think I hit a goldmine. I’m off now to go model my new clothes (I think I might just consider it my workout for the day) ;)

What's your favorite style of clothes to wear to the gym? Do you prefer to match or sport a random combination of articles from your closet to make an outfit? How do you shop for workout gear?

your find sounds great, I am in glens falls, ny, and I wish our tjmaxx had great A-equipment and for that matter- a marshalls next door. Lucky Lady!!!!!!
by the way, I too do the same thing --- first get all the best gym work out clothing, then go to the gym -- and yes, everything matches!!!!!! must be a female thing!!!!
good luck on your fitness goal....I too just joined a gym and I hope this one lasts more than a week --- especially since I bought all the great athletic gear!!!!!! And i will keep on looking at TJ for more finds in anticipation of this fitness thing lasting a while!!!!
Hey !:^Oa regular at the GYM - really, really working hard. I did pick up the weights and a jump rope at the TJ Maxx. They were so cheap - a real value for money. I make the best out of them at home, on most evenings.

My fitness goal (do not laugh!) is to get rid of most of the fat from my lower body. I do dream of a 6 pack abs most of the time.:^O Hoping and wishing I have it some day.

So true is the saying ,"If wishes were horses beggers could ride it too"
i am trying to lose weight too from my lower body. i eat anything and everything which is terrible. i try to run when I can, but i always make sure that i match...i think that it motivates me a little more because at least i feel cute.
The T.J. Maxx in Fayetteville, NY has awesome athletic gear. there are NIKE and ADDIDAS stretch pants. the workout shorts, are nice too. there are so many CHAMPION sports bras in cute summer colors. my T.J. Maxx doesn't have as much excercise equipment though, so i'm totally jealous.
good luck girlies with the working out!!:-x
Hi, I've just lost 30+ pounds and have a few more to go. Everyone was on my case to buy new clothes, but I was reluctant until I achieved my goal weight, as I didn't want to spend a fortune on "interim"clothes. Well, that's where TJMAXX has come in! I have been able to get great finds there for just a few hundred dollars total that are carrying me through. It's hit-or-miss at TJMAXX, but it's usually hit!!
Well good luck! I lost about 25 lbs in the past year, doesnt seem like much but when you're 5'3" every pound counts.

I'm basically concerned with everything except my shirt. I like wearing shorts because I get hot. I need a good sports bra for support. And I'm addicted to Nike sneakers. Matchy matchy, for me, is okay as long as you're matchy matching the brands. I can't take wearing or seeing people with adidas pants and nike sneakers. Haha maybe its just me but drives me nuts! Also the matchng stripes on the tops and bottoms look a little cheap. BUT HEY what counts is how hard you're working! Girls just tend be crazy about what they wear at the gym.

So I wear nike mesh or bike shorts, sneakers and I buy a pack of Guys Hanes white t-shirts every month. Works for me.
Lisa86,

Start a 'Photo Album' and show us your "all too matchy matchy" athletic attire! We'd love to see!

Happy Shopping,
Brenda
I am so happy that you posted this. I just had a baby a couple weeks ago and I can't wait to get back in shape! Since I just got the "a-ok" from my doctor to begin light exercise, I'm going to go shopping at TJMaxx this weekend and pick up some cute exercise clothes!

I do the same thing!--buying the workout clothes first, and then that serves as my motivation. Too funny.

Somehow I always end up with black bottoms and a colorful top. Do you actually wear colors on the bottom?
