I am going shopping later today with my Mother who is planning a kitchen and bath update. Now I know what type of décor I like but Mother is one of those die-hard leave the décor the same for 20 years types. Her past makeovers always went with the trend of the time such as: mauves/blue/country of the 80’s or the burgundy/greens of the 90’s (?). Not that there is anything wrong with going with the trend décor colors IF you like them; I just believe a person should decorate with what appeals/suits them rather than just go with the flow because that’s “what everyone is doing”. My décor is very specialized to my husband & my taste and that works well for us as we don’t plan on moving again.

I am hoping to broaden Mother’s decorating perspective this time around and help her discover her true style. Oh my, I sound awful now that I am reading this; like I’m some kind of decorating guru.  I really don’t mean it that way and will be aware of my behavior today. I will make sure to only make suggestions and leave the decisions up to her. I knew blogging was a good outlet for my thoughts but didn’t realize it could bring some self-awareness as well.

Anyone here have a similar type experience they could share with me?
