Halloween Rant
Can I just go off on my own little Halloween Rant for a minute?

For a long time Halloween has been a time where grown women parade around in something they call a costume that is really more like lingerie. I distinctly remember taking my girls trick-or-treating at the mall and having to cover their eyes when some of the store employees were handing out candy.

Little Bo Peep was NOT meant to be a star of adult film.

As if that wasn't bad enough, now it's trickled down to children's costumes. Have you SEEN the choices available?? They're ridiculous! Thigh high stockings for 7 year olds?!? "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!! I want to be a hooker for halloween this year!!"

What happened to the innocent fun of halloween? Where are the cute little kitties? The Punk Rocker with the outrageous hair and make-up? The simple Ghost, for crying out loud?! Now it's all about skin, skin and more skin. The bodices of costumes are STUFFED to add "dimension", the slits are so high they might as well rip the garment in half. WItches are sex symbols and fairies no longer flit around innocently scattering fairy dust.

It's a shame, that's what it is..a shame.

And it won't get any better when the icons are Brittney, Paris, Lindsey and the rest of the crotch wielding maniacs. Think of the ideas being formed for these young girls.
This is all very scary actually. And I have a little girl who'll be two next month. I opted to get her a Tinker Bell outfit which looks like a little dress and it's cute. But I'm also putting a long sleeved white shirt under it and leggings, not that it's overly sexy, but because it'll be cold. The costume is not 'sexy' at all. But I understand what you're talking about Heidi. I've seen the trends too. In two more years or so I'm going to have to learn how to make my own costumes for my child in order to keep her covered.

Katie, you have a very valid and scary point!! :)

Any other opinions?

Sorry if I sounded cranky, it's just that it's a sore spot with me. Annie, your baby will have a great time & be warm. God bless you.

I am talking about the other "parents" they buy this stuff for their kids and think....WHAT the HECK are they thinking? Sorry there I go again. It's just that I think it's hard enough growing up, do they need added pressure of looking cheap for approval, tossed into the hormone soup.
Katie,

I completely understand where you are coming from. I remember awhile back when I saw tweens and teens running around in these shirts saying "Future Adult Star" (It's actually the 'P' word but the site won't let me post that. You get the idea) and things like that. I didn't even have kids yet and I was mortified! I couldn't believe parents would buy these things and let their kids run around in them! So I completely understand where you are coming from! :)

Thanks for letting us use your blog Heidi! :-D

Annie
Use away! LOL

It's a sore spot with me, too, Katie.

I'm sure she was completely ADORABLE Annie!

One of my daughter's friends came Trick or Treating with us, and before I let us leave the house I made her go put a shirt and leggings on under her barely there fairy costume. Why should MY daughter have to suffer the embarassment of having me for a mother, alone?? Ha!!
