Ran across this book the other day and just had to get it as a gag gift stocking stuffer for my son. He suffers from that "wanting to be the best at everything" disease and I figured this book would help him out. LOL
We love stuffing stockings at our house. Just never know what we'll find on Christmas morning. Do you stuff stockings?
I live in Alabama and we rarely get enough snow to amount to anything. I saw this snowball and snowblock set at T J Maxx today and thought what a cool idea and my son would've LOVED it when he was younger.
My second thought was “why would you really even need this in the south". Back in the rare day we did have snow, we barely had time to grab a handful of snow before we were throwing it or dodging a snowball being thrown at us. We definitely didn't have time to load a snowball "maker". We wouldn't even have time to unpack the snowblock maker because our snow would be melted....LOL. I suppose this would be awesome where there is snowfall aplenty.
Ever seen anything like this? Would you buy it for your kids?
I was in a store today and saw a necklace and bracelet that were gratitude attitude jewelry. While standing in line I reflected on whether or not I truly have an attitude of gratitude. Some days I do, while other days all I see is what is “wrong”. It all comes down to perspective for me. How am I perceiving things, am I getting my way, and/or am I angry…all these are things that affect my attitude. Awareness, acceptance and practice I think are the answers to my cup being ½ full instead of ½ empty.
Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. How is your gratitude attitude? What do you do to see the cup ½ full?
I have recently started making stir-fry and chicken fried rice. I have been using a regular skillet which works just fine but I saw these woks at my local T J Maxx (this one priced at $6.99) and wondered if they work better than a skillet? Feedback anyone?
We won’t have many, if any, trick or treaters. (Unfortunately for my hips…all these mini candy bars won’t go to waist….. get it? Hehe) I always carve a pumpkin but this year I got carried away and carved three. They do look pretty all lit up in the dark if I do say so myself. I’ve attached pictures of my efforts along with my “helper”. She’s the kitten I rescued from the parking lot about 3 weeks ago. Yes she is still here and her name is Bella….LOL.
I guess when our children grow up…Halloween just isn’t the same. I envy those of you who will be helping put on costumes, answering the door to a myriad of costume clad kids and surveying the candy before it can be eaten. How about humoring me and tell me what your kids are dressing up as this year? Have neighbors gotten stingy with the candy giving with all the higher prices? Let me know, I’m truly interested.
Back when my son was young he LOVED wearing camo (he hasn’t outgrown that trend considering that he is a Marine…LOL). Anyway back to the story, he thought that when you wore camo clothing people couldn’t see you. He would throw on his camo, come bounding into the room and say “You can’t see me”!! LOL It was the cutest thing and was a favorite story as he grew. (Like the chicken pox story—he hadn’t even been around any chickens he said so he couldn’t have it…rofl) Ah, the memories are flooding back and I’m getting distracted.
Yesterday his girlfriend and I were at TJ Maxx when we happened upon this camo shirt with the glittery words YOU CAN’T SEE ME!!! Yes!! She and I were rolling in the aisles. To make this story even better it was her size, on clearance for $3.00 and she is going to wear it when we pick him up at the airport in a few weeks. Do you think he’ll be able to see her? HaHa
Anybody got a favorite story they’d like to share? One that's just too good not to share? I’d love to hear it. Don’t be shy now…this is the place.
Here in the South, the fall nip in the air has finally blown in although you can’t tell that during the day. LOL Leaves have started turning colors, grass doesn’t need mowing, all those tropical plants are getting put away, things outdoors are slowing down…..it’s time to breathe. As much as I will miss the bright greens of summer, I am looking forward to the awesome yellows/reds of the fall season.
Remember how we actually used to have “seasons”? In past years the seasons seemed to go from summer to winter and back again with no noticeable time for fall or spring. I’m living back in the country this year after a 20 year hiatus in the city so I don’t know if it’s only my perspective that has changed or if something is actually different this year. Does time really pass slower out here than in town or am I just remembering to breathe?
Whichever it is, I am enjoying this fall season. Lightweight jacket, roasting marshmallows on the fire and mug of cocoa here I come. Care to share your thoughts on the fall season? What are you looking forward to? Are you remembering to breathe?
While I was browsing the other day I noticed these clear vases filled with fall items. How fast and simple would it be to just change out the contents for each holiday or season? ....fall items, Halloween candy, Christmas ornaments ...well you get the idea....LOL In today's fast paced world I'm all for the fast, simple and inexpensive decorating ideas. How about you?
One of my favorite traditions started on my son’s first Christmas. I purchased his first ornament. I have stayed faithful to that tradition and purchased him a special Christmas ornament every year. They are stored all together in a box so that when he puts up his first tree, he’ll have a lot of special memories to fill it. I look at it as it will be a tree of love. Yes I’m emotional as this will be his first Christmas out of the house. He is 21 yrs old and a Marine this year. I was shopping last Friday at TJ Maxx and found the perfect ornament for him this year. He LOVED choc-choc milk growing up and we always had Hershey syrup in the house.
Anyone else have traditions they would like to share? I sure would love to hear about them.
I love the glowing flicker of scented candles; it seems to make my home feel warm and inviting. The different smells of the candles or incense can affect my moods by evoking memories or just calming me down when I feel anxious. Nothing beats a good hot bubble-bath by candlelight. I can safely bet I’m not the only one enjoying this “trend” by the large displays of candles and incense I see in the stores.
Thought I’d share these pictures of diffusers I saw yesterday. I was very drawn to these and wondered if anyone here had experience with diffusers. I would like to hear your experience with these as opposed to candles. Anyone?
I am going shopping later today with my Mother who is planning a kitchen and bath update. Now I know what type of décor I like but Mother is one of those die-hard leave the décor the same for 20 years types. Her past makeovers always went with the trend of the time such as: mauves/blue/country of the 80’s or the burgundy/greens of the 90’s (?). Not that there is anything wrong with going with the trend décor colors IF you like them; I just believe a person should decorate with what appeals/suits them rather than just go with the flow because that’s “what everyone is doing”. My décor is very specialized to my husband & my taste and that works well for us as we don’t plan on moving again.
I am hoping to broaden Mother’s decorating perspective this time around and help her discover her true style. Oh my, I sound awful now that I am reading this; like I’m some kind of decorating guru. I really don’t mean it that way and will be aware of my behavior today. I will make sure to only make suggestions and leave the decisions up to her. I knew blogging was a good outlet for my thoughts but didn’t realize it could bring some self-awareness as well.
Anyone here have a similar type experience they could share with me?
I LOVE evening gowns!! (I am an avid reader and yes historical romance would be included as a favorite of mine.) Something about the romantic, swishy, totally feminine vibe of an evening gown makes me feel like a princess. It must be noted of course that I haven’t actually worn a gown like this since prom but the memories remain. LOL
I have posted a few pictures of gowns I think are beautiful. I was curious (as I have 1 son only) what type of evening/prom gowns the girls are wearing now? I’m a visual person so share some pictures with me over on photo albums please.
Sorry but that tea for two song has been stuck in my head since I saw the large tea selection at my local TJ Maxx. The best way to keep it from circling my brain is to pass it on to you. Bet you just love that don’t you? ROFL
I must admit I've always been more of a coffee person and never given a second thought to the different varieties of tea. Being from the South I can, of course, make a mean pitcher of sweet tea. I am curious now about the difference in teas and would love to get opinions/feedback on the best varieties to try. Any tea experts out there want to help me get started along on the tea adventure? I eagerly await your responses!
I realize this is a sad topic but funerals are an inevitable event. I have attended more funerals in the past year than in the previous 10 years. I guess that is to be expected as we grow older. What surprised me is the way I have seen people dress. The norm used to be black or some somber color. Women wore dresses and men wore suits. Now I am seeing people wearing denim, women in pants, people wearing their work clothes, even one lady looking like she was going to be on “Dancing with the Stars” afterward. What is this world coming to? Is it a lack of respect or just the changing of the times? Have we gotten so busy in our everyday lives we don’t stop to think? I’d like to hear some examples of what you’ve seen lately or just your opinion. What do you consider appropriate attire for this type of sad occasion?
