What's your shopping technique?

Jun 6, 2008 3:22 AM

for me, I'm a gather, test, divide and re-tester.

Basicall, I grab anything that catches my eye. Even ugly clothes...remember, ugly on the hanger sometimes equals beautiful on the body. Then, when my basket is full, it's to the dressing room. I try everything on in outfits, I put them into piles, discard, consider, and must haves, when I've tried everything on..THEN I consult the price tags, put away the items I know are too expensive, and try on things again, then I make my final selections.

what are your traditions? -- Shopping is not an addiction. It's a lifestyle.

Cody-kun,

Thanks for sharing your shopping technique! Making piles is a great idea to stay organized while trying on lots of clothes. Take the 'discards' right out of the room so you can concentrate on the 'maybe's' and the 'must haves'.

Happy Shopping!

See, price is always a big thing for me. I'm not even going to take something into the dressing room that's not within my budget. Why kill myself with the temptation??

Other than that, my style is a lot like Cody-Kun's - I pile my cart high, head to the dressing room and just try them all on. I have my piles (or hooks to hang things on) depending on where things are. Good thing for my budget, my discard pile is always the biggest! LOL

If I'm shopping for clothes for myself, I go to the section that has my size first and look from there. That way I can find something I like and most of the time it fits!

Most clothes I don't like, but then again, I only really shop at T.J. Maxx and Old Navy since they both change the styles often enough and cheap enough.

At T.J. Maxx I pretty much just check out what's in when I am working or on break or as I put it out. Then I hold it and buy it later!

If I see something that I like at regular price, I check the ladder number on it to see if it's due for a markdown, then I might wait for it to go down more.

It doesn't really make sense to me to go out just to shop unless I have a gift card. I don't know how people can just spend all that money. -- Thank you, Have a nice day!

Cody-Kun -

JEALOUS that you know the markdown schedule. Can you be my TJ Maxx secret informant? ;)

I hear ya on just going shopping to shop. With the price of EVERYTHING going up, I don't know how people can just go out and buy whatever, whenever. I love shopping, don't get me wrong, but it's gotta fit into my family budget or it's just not going to happen.

Hi, I'm new to this site. Just joined today. I used to work at a TJMaxx in college, so I should know this, but what is a "ladder number" and how does it help you know about mark-up dates?

Thanks and have a wonderful summer.

Hi, Shones!! Welcome to the T J Maxx forum. I hope that you have a great time with all of us. I'm interested to know about "ladder numbers" as well.

Take care,
Shannon

I like to start in the clearance sections because I don't really need any more clothes/shoes but love finding a great bargain!

The ladder numbers are the boxed numbers in the top right corner of a TJ Maxx ticket that indicate the month that they came in.

Right now it's at 07 and it goes up to 24 before it resets.

So anything that's about 2 to 3 behind the current ladder code is usually due for a markdown. So right now most things with 04 and earlier are marked down. -- Thank you, Have a nice day!

i'm a browser.. i love going in not needing anything specific, but finding great deals!

that's me, versus my boyfriend who will go in desperately needing one or two items... like today for instance, he needed a white dress shirt an hour before work!

I'm a quality shopper. I look for things that look expensive. If it passes the quality test, then I look at the price tag. If it meets the budget, I love it and need it (well, that one is highly subjective), then it goes in the cart.

I rarely buy clothes at TJ Maxx, but I do really well with beauty products and housewares.

That ladder number info is brilliant! Thanks! I love shopping at TJX and now I can tell when the markdown are coming and whether to risk waiting or not.

Sounds like my boyfriend, except ,he has to have shirts. We will go out and he will go get one love it and leave the store
not buying. I HATE THAT!!!!!! Why is it so hard for them to leave it to the last minute for everything. I keep telling him
I will spend it for him in a NY minute, no prob , but it will be for me.
